Omaha Wireless Coverage at Elmwood Park

Elmwood Park is bounded by Dodge street, Happy Hollow Blvd, 60th, Pacific and 67th streets. Our goal is to cover 100% of the park with a wireless signal strong enough to allow surfing the Internet from anywhere in the green space. Providing coverage to the park presented a distinct challenge, specifically the large amount of foliage - which blocks and or absorbs a lot of the signal.

What we have

Currently there are three 17db 120 degree Sector antennas, with medium gain and horizontal polarization on the roof of both the Sapp field house and at Peter Kiewit Institute.

Horizontal polarization provides better penetration in forested/wooded areas. The beam from the sector antennas are tilted downwards for better ground access for users. Also, this type of antenna will restrict the coverage to unwanted locations and will be pointed towards the park.

What we need

In order to ensure strong coverage for the south side of the park, one omni directional antenna will be placed at the Elwood Park Golf Course Clubhouse, and another at the public restrooms in the park. Both these access points will be used as repeaters or beacons.
