Omaha Wireless Group Goal

Our goal is to build a self-sufficient wireless network that can be used for various services that may be found on the Internet: web, mail, chat, gaming and resource sharing. Such a network will not depend on the Internet for content or connectivity. Instead, it can work in conjunction with the Internet to supplement ways for one to better use connectivity. Users on this wireless network who wish to share their bandwidth may function as Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and provide access to the Internet.

With the widespread reliance of networking in business and dramatic growth of internet, wireless networks provide endless benefits and research opportunities. Wireless users can access the data and access shared information without the need for any cable connectivity. The technology offers significant productivity, convenience and cost advantages over traditional wired networks. The following are few key points that describe how wireless networks are more beneficial than wired networks in certain scenarios.

  • Flexibility (anytime, anywhere access)
  • Cost savings (Lower cabling/installation costs)
  • Time savings (improved efficiency)
  • Productivity gains
  • Mobility within building or campus
  • Convenience (no cables)
  • Ease of set-up/implementation
  • Ability to connect places with little infrastructure (for example rural areas)
  • Accessibility
  • Scalability
